ALL of the gold I use to make my jewellery is certified by the Fairtrade Foundation to be 'Fairtrade and Fairmined Ecological' gold.
Fairtrade and Fairmined Ecological Gold
Fairtrade and Fairmined Ecological certified gold is the world's first indpendant ethical certification system for gold and associated precious metals from artisanal and small-scale miners. The certification is the result of two organisations, the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO) and the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), combining their efforts to enable small-scale and artisanal miners to improve their livelihoods.
It also guarentees that the gold has been responsibly mined without the use of chemicals and is 100% traceable, morally responsible and sustainable. It also ensures that the miners get a fair and just price for their efforts.
FLO and ARM have created a clearly defined set of standards which must be fulfilled to achieve certification. These standards mean the certified miners will:
Receive a guaranteed Fairtrade minimum price
Receive a Fairtrade and Ecological premium; which is 15% of the market price
Be required to develop democratic and collective organisations
Be required to use safe and environmentally responsible working practises

I source my beautifully pure gold from the 'Oro Verde' project in the Choco Bioregion in Colombia. It is currently the only cooperative to be certified to the Fairtrade and Fairmined Ecological standards.
Oro Verde gold is mined alluvially (hand panned) which ensures that there is minimal damage to the environment.
"Oro Verde was created by and for mining famililes of the Choco Bioregion in Colombia. These famililes have inherited anscestral artisanal mining techniques that ensure a sustainable use of the natural resources of their home; a land of tropical rainforests and one of the most lush ecosystems on our planet "
